The Sports Massage teaching clinic is based in Cambridge as a part of HeadStart Sports Injury & Performance Clinic. Sports Massage students & recent graduates on an internship at the clinic run a clinic on a weekly basis.

Students are required to complete 100+ hours of sports massage treatments outside of the class room. This is an opportunity for students to take part in a 'real clinic' setting. Students assess and treat clients under the supervision of experienced massage therapists.

What happens during an appointment?

  • A thorough case-history will be taken including medical history, current symptoms and past medical history. A postural assessment and other relevant testing will be performed.
  • The therapist will discuss your case history with their tutor, the possible reasons for the problem (differential diagnosis), and put together a comprehensive treatment plan. This means they may leave the room for a short period of time to get supervision, or discuss your case afterwards with their supervisor.
  • You will then receive a full explanation of your treatment, and if you give consent, then the sports massage treatment will begin.

The consultation may take a little longer than it would if you were going to a private practice. This allows for tutor and student discussion, with a great deal of attention to detail.

What is different compared to booking an appointment at the main clinic?

All of the students running this clinic are on a Level 5 Sports Massage course which means that they are being trained in the same skills that our resident Sports Massage Therapists. The students are not as experienced as our normal therapists, but they are supervised closely and part of your treatment may be delivered by the supervising therapist. Or the therapists are recently qualified graduates of this course - meaning they have the highest level qualification possible for a Sports Massage therapist.

How much does it cost?

Please note payments are cash only for these apts.

Our teaching clinics are run by experienced students at the end of their course and sessions cost £20. Occasionally new students run the clinic, for which there is no charge.

How long does the session last for?

Each session is 1 hour duration. As with our normal appointments at least 15mins of this time will be put aside for taking your case history and performing assessments.

Clinic Location

Our student clinics are only offered at our Main Clinic location in Central Cambridge

Cancellation Policy

Please be aware that cancellations made less than 48 hours notice, or is not attended without cancellation, will be charged at the full rate. As in any professional environment respect of a students time is essential.
